Camino Nacional

Camino Nacional (2000-2700m) is a ~15km long unpaved rocky road that heads uphill out of the historic town of Salento, until turning back down into the Cocora Valley. Although the town of Salento is often crowded with both Colombian and international tourists, Camino Nacional has very little traffic itself. The road offers stunning views and is a great place to search for tanagers, warblers, hummingbirds, and toucans. The eBird hotspot lists 349 observed species: Camino Nacional Illustrated Checklist. After a long morning of birding, we can can lunch farther up in the Cocora Valley, or down in the town of Salento.
