Day Trips
SSF is open for day trips by reservation to small groups (2-4 people per day). Please set up your reservation with us by email at least two days beforehand (the earlier the better): santuariosantafe1@gmail.com
For day trip visitors we have three types of tours, depending on your interests and priorities. We can modify any of the tours to meet your needs and desires. Standard day trips include transportation to and from the airport as well as breakfast, lunch, and other refreshments. For visitors staying nearby at Pernambuco we can help with dinner if desired. Detailed itineraries for the standard tours are listed below the trail map.
If you are staying elsewhere in Quindio (Salento, Filandia, etc.) and want to get out and see some wildlife while enjoying a traditional farm experience, then the Relaxed Nature Tour is probably best for you. You’ll still get plenty of exercise on this tour, expect to walk about 3km on gravel roads and moderate hiking trails. This is a great tour if you want an introduction to birding.
If you came to Colombia primarily to see birds, then the Experienced Birder Tour is probably best for you. We recommend staying nearby at Pernambuco for this tour so that you can be here during peak bird activity in the early morning and late afternoon. Expect to walk about 4km on gravel roads and moderate to difficult hiking trails.
If you want to see everything and are comfortable getting wet and muddy on challenging trails, then the All Terrain Tour may be best for you. This tour covers about 5km of gravel roads and trails, including the steep and slippery waterfall trail. Unless you are a mountain climber or ultra-marathon runner, expect to be worn out at the end of the day by this tour.
Relaxed Nature Tour Itinerary
~7:30am - Pick up at the airport
~8:00am - Arrive at SSF, coffee, breakfast, and birding around the farmhouse
~9:00am - Creek Road, maybe monkeys if we’re lucky
~10:00am - Snacks and coffee or lemonade around the farmhouse
~11:00am - Garden tour around the farmyard
~12:00pm - Traditional paisa lunch
~2:00pm - Slow walk on the Mirador Trail
~3:00pm - Happy hour and snacks at the Mirador
~4:00pm - Head back to the airport
~4:30pm -Arrive at airport
Experienced Birders Tour
~5:30am - pick up at pernambuco
~5:45am - arrive at ssf, coffee & snacks, birding around the farm yard
~8:00am - breakfast & front porch birding
~8:30am - creek road birding, maybe monkeys if we’re lucky
~10:15am - snacks and coffee or lemonade at the farmhouse
~10:45am - reforestation trail (or creek and waterfall trail if not closed for maintenance)
~12:30pm - Traditional paisa lunch
~2:00pm - Slow walk on the Mirador Trail
~3:00pm - Happy hour and snacks at the Mirador
~4:00pm - birding around the farm yard
~5:30pm - head back to pernambuco
